MUSIC IN FELIXSTOWE - New Year newsletter 2012
Hello and Happy New Year,
We had a lovely Christmas concert earlier on in the month with the Sudbourne Ensemble, led by Jim Macleod and involving local school children in the second half. The annual collection at the concert raised £116.50p for SightSavers.
We have two concerts coming up:
Firstly the Classic Strings led by my brother, Nick Ward, are playing at St John’s Church on January 8th at 3.00pm. Pre-booked tickets(include wine) at £10 are available from Magpie Books or from me (01394 670633) Tickets on the door are £12, children free. The programme includes the Tchaikovsky Serenade and Mozart Divertimento K 136.
On January 22nd at 3.00pm/5.30pm at St Nicholas Church here at Felixstowe Ferry. It is my great pleasure to be joined by Roland Roberts, violin and David Ogden, viola in a programme -“Mozart by Candlelight”. This includes the Mozart oboe quartet, where we will be joined by well-known oboist, Rob Rogers, and the Divertimento in Eb major. Such is the high demand for tickets that we are putting on a second performance at 5.30. Please book on 01394 670633 for either performance -seating is very limited at the 3.00 concert .
We still have plenty of our compilation CD’s left – I have found that they make useful presents!!!
GOOD NEWS – an anonymous donor has paid for the piano wheels and these are now installed.
Many thanks to her and others who have made contributions in the past.

MUSIC IN FELIXSTOWE September 2011 Newsletter
Hello, The new season started with a brilliant recital by violinist Nicholas Ward and John Stafford piano. As someone pointed out at the end of the concert, “that sets a very high standard for the rest of the season!”
Well, we will rise to the challenge and aim to bring you the most exciting and memorable concerts for the rest of the season.@
The summer series brought talented young musicians to appreciative audiences – good to see so many people coming to support them, and they weren’t disappointed - it was a wonderful display of musicianship. The 2 concerts in the Ferry Sailing Club were enjoyed by all. The Sondheim concert was remarkable as my new grand-daughter, Rose Bennett was in the audience aged 4 days. Everyone who was present signed the programme for her!
Our monthly Wednesday lunchtime concerts start on September 21st at 1.00pm
at St Andrews Church.
“The Three Cellos” – Melanie Woodcock, Jeremy Hughes and Harriet Bennett will play a selection of arrangements and original works including a first performance of a newly commissioned work by Peter Byrom- Smith. Admission for this concert is £5.00 children free.
We are looking forward to the concert on October 2nd St John’s Church, Orwell Road at 3.00pm. when Nicholas Ward returns to lead the Classic Strings in the Mendelssohn Octet – one of the all- time favourites in the chamber music catalogue. We are also performing the Grande Sestetto by Mozart, which is a transcription of the Sinfonia Concertante for sextet. Coincidentally, Nick is actually performing this with the Northern Chamber Orchestra 3 days earlier.
Admission on the door is £12.00, children free and includes Pimms or wine. Pre booked tickets are on sale at £10.00 from Magpie Books or on 01394 670633
Looking forward to seeing you during the coming months - Hattie
We are hugely grateful for the help we are already receiving but still need some helpers for the following:
1. Making teas and coffees/mulled drinks at the forthcoming concerts as we're playing in all of them!
2. Distributing leaflets - I had 10,000 printed and still have about a third left.
3. Delivering newsletters in your area.
4. Finding sponsorship, business patrons. Quite an undertaking in these times.

Hello,
The new season starts with a recital by my brother Nicholas Ward, who was leader of the City of London Sinfonia until recently and is now pursuing a solo and chamber music career. We are lucky to have him playing, not only in this concert, but also directing and leading the Classic Strings Orchestra in October. Nick will be partnered by John Stafford, a pianist of great repute, whom we are lucky enough to have living on the doorstep. The Sondheim concert on August 25th had to be held at the Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club at 7.15, as the church was being renovated - a shame as I'd already bought the Pimms! (I daresay it'll come in useful at another concert!)
Hoping you're enjoying this lovely sunny weather.

Hello,
We are all looking forward to performing Walton’s” Façade” and Stravinsky’s” The Soldier’s Tale” on Sunday, July 3rd, at Waldringfield Village Hall at 7.00pm.
The programme is a coming together of music and theatre and promises to be most exciting with major performers taking part. We are particularly pleased to welcome back Roland Roberts violin, Anna Noakes flute and to introduce Gary Kettel percussionist and Charles Hart( who wrote Phantom of the Opera) as one of the narrators.
We are offering a reduction in price (£12 on the door for adults-children free) to £10 if you pre-book. This will include wine or light refreshments. Tickets can be bought from Woodbridge Violins, Magpie Books in Felixstowe, or from me on 01394 670633.
I am delighted to attach details of our summer concert series. I particularly hope you will be able to come and support the young musicians.
Those of you who have been generous enough to become Patrons will note that we are putting on a “Songs from the Shows” concert. If you have any favourites you would like included please let me know as soon as possible and we will endeavour to include them.
(There is still time to become a patron if you would like to help Music in Felixstowe)
Hello
The last Wednesday concert in the present series will be on November 24th at 1.00pm this week at St Andrew’s Church
Christine Whiffen will be playing on the harpsichord. If it turns cold we'll hold the concert in the round under the heater!
I do hope you can come as Christine is a fantastic player and we are lucky to get her in the middle of a busy schedule - this weekend she has been recording on the harmonium with the Orchestra of the Swan, for a Mahler Symphony!
Tickets are £5 children free -bring your lunch along and we'll provide a hot drink.
SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2010
Members of “Chameleon” gave a very well-attended concert at the Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club a couple of weeks ago. It was interesting how the combination of string quartet and jazz quartet
attracted an eclectic audience, who seemed to appreciate the mixed bag of music we presented.
Our next concert – the 1940’s Night will be held at St Nicholas Church at Felixstowe Ferry. The original church was destroyed by a bomb during the war so it is highly appropriate
that it is the setting for our performance.
There is a change of artiste in that our singer, Emily Bennett will be joined by Shaun McCourt, a recent graduate from the Guildford School of Acting,
highly rated by Martin Waddington our pianist, who is Head of Musical Theatre at the college. Martin is well remembered as being the Musical Director
for several shows at the old Wolsey Theatre.
The show will be at 7.00pm and booking is advisable (01394 670633) although at present there are still plenty of seats left.
The Wednesday lunchtime concerts are being extremely well received with some stunning performances by the young musicians.
I am hoping some of them will return for full-length concerts in the future when they’ve completed their training.
Recent concerts have featured an acoustic rock trio fronted by Aldeburgh Young Musician of the Year, Oscar Charlton on guitar. Also performances by Cameron Smith cellist, Imogen Ridge harp
and Owen Dawson trombone.
MUSIC IN FELIXSTOWE – September Newsletter 2010
Hello everyone.
We have had a really good summer with some stunning performances by over 50 young people in our lunchtime series. I have just heard that the young harp player, Imogen Ridge, has been accepted on the Aldeburgh Young Musicians scheme. Also that the cellist, Cameron Smith and violinist Tom Ping gained sufficient grades at A level to commence their studies at Trinity College of Music and the Birmingham Conservatoire respectively next month. We look forward to hosting another similar series next summer.
In the meantime, our autumn concerts start next Sunday with a concert by the Ward Piano Trio, which features my brother Nick Ward, well known to East Anglian audiences as the leader of the City of London Sinfonia. Nick has spent the past 3 months leading the orchestra for open-air opera performances at Holland Park. He is really looking forward to playing some chamber music for a change. It is always a great pleasure for me to perform with Nick and we are delighted to be joined by pianist John Stafford for this concert. The programme includes the first piano trio by Schumann whose bi-centenary is this year, the lovely Beethoven trio op.1 no.3 and a new piece to Nick and myself “Circulo” by the Spanish composer Joaquin Turina (1882-1949).
The concert is this Sunday at St Andrew’s Church at 3.00pm
Admission is £10, children free.
If you didn’t get to this concert the Ward Piano Trio is performing at the Seckford Theatre on September 29th. The programme is Beethoven Archduke Trio, Chopin Piano Trio and Turino “Circulo”.
The 1940’s night was a huge success. If you know a venue, however humble, which would like a repeat of this concert, we are hoping to take it on tour. You can contact me on 01394 670633
Please note that the concert in October is at St Peter and St Paul Church, Old Felixstowe
Hoping to see you at some of our concerts during the autumn and winter.
Thanks again for supporting us.
